Tips from a fitness icon

Jack was a self-proclaimed “sugarholic” with severe behavioral problems until the age of 15.

He began changing his health habits which changed his life. He opened the first fitness club; created his own power juicer; and was the Jack that Jumping Jacks were named after. Who is this man? Jack Lalanne, the first fitness superhero.
Jack lived until he was 96; but still exercised for 2 hours a day at the age of 95. “Life is survival of the fittest…People work at dying, they don't work at living. My workout is my obligation to life.”  Your health account, your bank account, they're the same thing. The more you put in, the more you can take out.”
Although most of us do not have the desire to be a fitness superhero, what can we learn from this man who influenced so many?

  1. Exercise– “Life is like an athletic event. You’ve got to train for it…exercise is the king and nutrition is queen.” Schedule regular appointments for exercise. If you want to see improvement, step up your intensity or change your activity.
  2.  Nutrition- When you are hungry, eat healthy. Choose fresh fruits, vegetables and add low fat protein. Limit salt, sugar and ingredients that you cannot identify.
  3.  Positive Thinking– Always speak and think positively.
  4.   Good Habits – Spend time preparing for a healthy day, especially with meals. Those fruits and vegetables in the bottom shelf of your refrigerator are not going to prepare themselves!
  5.   Good Grooming-Present yourself with confidence and always wear a smile.
  6. Always take time to relax, help others and have faith. Faith is the cornerstone of hope and hope is vital to change.
